Fully anonymous testing is sometimes possible at the GGD (public health service), for certain risk groups. A private STI test isn't fully anonymous, but it is private and discreet: the test is in your name and you share nothing with your GP unless you choose to.

For many people, privacy is the main reason to test at all. I get that.
Can you get tested for STIs anonymously?
Sometimes. The GGD sometimes tests certain risk groups fully anonymously, so without your name being recorded anywhere. If you fall outside that, you can go to a private provider discreetly, but that test is in your name.
Anonymous and discreet aren't the same. With anonymous your identity is unknown, with discreet it's known but well protected.
Anonymous via the GGD or discreet private: what's the difference?
The difference is in cost, access and privacy. The GGD is meant for risk groups and is sometimes free, but not everyone qualifies. A private test is open to everyone and quick to arrange, but you pay yourself.

Why do people choose a discreet STI test?
Often for three reasons: discretion, speed and control. You don't have to explain a reason, and you arrange it at a time that suits you. For some people that's the difference between testing and not testing.

What happens to your data?
With a private test your data falls under the GDPR. You don't automatically share your result with your GP, you only do that if you want to. That way you keep control over who knows what.
With an anonymous GGD test your name isn't recorded. Which route fits depends on how important full anonymity is to you.
When does anonymous or discreet testing matter?
