b-hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)
hCG is the hormone that appears as soon as a fertilised egg implants in the wall of the womb. In blood it can usually be detected around eight to eleven days after conception, a few days earlier than most home pregnancy tests. An hCG blood test also gives you a number instead of a line, and your clinician can repeat that number after 48 hours to see which way it is heading. Small amounts of hCG also occur in people who are not pregnant, and in men any measurable value is a reason for further assessment.
