Do you wear a Whoop or another wearable to track your training, sleep and recovery? A wristband like that measures your heart rate, movement and variability, but it cannot look inside your blood. This blood test for athletes fills that blind spot with 45 biomarkers, from your metabolism to your hormones and inflammation.
You order this Whoop blood test online, have your blood drawn at a certified sample point and receive your results within a few working days, including an assessment by a BIG-registered doctor. That way you combine the daily data from your wearable with a snapshot from your blood. This test is independent of Whoop and not affiliated with the brand.
Why this test?
A wearable shows you how your body behaves: your resting heart rate, your sleep, your recovery score. What it does not measure are the values in your blood underneath. A broad blood panel can add that extra layer of insight.
Think of your iron stores, your hormone balance or signs of inflammation after a heavy training block. These values can help you understand why recovery lags or your energy fluctuates. It remains a snapshot and not a diagnosis, but it gives you and your doctor concrete data to discuss.
Who is this test for?
This sports blood test may suit people who:
- use a Whoop, heart rate strap or other wearable and want to add blood values to their training data
- train seriously for endurance, strength or a competition and want to record their baseline
- notice that recovery, energy or performance changes without a clear reason
- want preventive insight into how their body functions under load
You do not need to be an elite athlete; even consistent recreational training can make a broad panel like this useful.
What is tested?
This test measures 45 biomarkers, grouped around the areas that may be relevant for active people:
- Metabolism and blood sugar: including fasting glucose, HbA1c, insulin and HOMA-IR.
- Heart and blood vessels: a lipid profile with LDL, HDL and triglycerides, plus ApoB, Lp(a) and homocysteine.
- Hormones: testosterone (total and free), SHBG, cortisol, DHEA-S, estradiol and the thyroid value TSH.
- Iron status: ferritin, iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation.
- Liver and kidneys: including ALT, AST, creatinine and eGFR.
- Inflammation, blood count and vitamin D: CRP, a complete blood count with leukocyte differential and vitamin D.
Minerals and electrolytes are included as well. Read more about ferritin, vitamin D and CRP.
What can this test tell you?
Together, these 45 biomarkers can give you a broader view of how your body responds to training. Your iron and blood values may say something about your oxygen transport and energy, while your hormones and cortisol may relate to recovery and stress.
Your metabolic values can show how your body handles sugars, and markers such as CRP may point to insufficient recovery. This remains data you discuss with a doctor; a number on its own is not a verdict on your fitness.
How is the sample collected?
For this test, blood is drawn at a certified sample point. There are 650+ locations across the Netherlands, which you choose yourself after ordering.
You do not need a referral from your GP: this is a blood test without a referral, where you pick a location and a time that suit you. The draw is done by trained staff and usually takes a few minutes. Unlike a self-test at home, your blood is analysed in a certified lab.
When is this test useful?
This test can be useful if you want to record your baseline at the start of a training season, or if you notice your recovery, sleep or performance changing while your wearable shows no clear cause.
Around a heavy training block or a stressful period, these values can add extra context. You always interpret the result together with a doctor.
What do the results mean?
Your result shows each value with a reference range and a short explanation. What counts as a healthy value varies by lab, by person and sometimes by training moment, so a single number says little.
Athletes sometimes have values that fall just outside the standard reference without anything being wrong, such as a temporarily raised CRP after hard exercise. That is why a doctor looks at the whole picture: your values, your symptoms and your context. Only a doctor can properly interpret your result.
What happens after the results?
Your results are available online within a few working days. You see all your blood values, their reference ranges and a clear explanation, which you can place alongside the data from your wearable.
Every blood test result includes a professional assessment from a BIG-registered doctor. For treatment decisions, discuss your results with your GP.
Frequently Asked Questions
This sports blood test measures 45 biomarkers across metabolism, heart and blood vessels, hormones, iron, liver, kidneys and inflammation, for a broader view of how your body responds to training.
No. This is an independent blood test you order yourself, not affiliated with the Whoop brand. It complements your wearable data with blood values.
For values such as glucose, insulin and your lipids it is common to measure while fasting, so plan your draw in the morning where possible.
No, you order this test online without a referral and choose your own sample point and time.

Chorowałeś? Poczekaj chwilę
WymaganeMiałeś w ciągu ostatnich 2 tygodni gorączkę, infekcję lub szczepienie? Poczekaj z pobraniem, aż całkiem wyzdrowiejesz. Te wartości reagują na stan zapalny i dałyby zafałszowany obraz.
-
Odstaw na czas biotynę
WymaganeBierzesz suplement z biotyną (witamina B8, częsta w suplementach na włosy, skórę i paznokcie)? Odstaw go 72 godzin przed pobraniem. Biotyna zaburza pomiar tych wartości.
-
-
Bez alkoholu przed badaniem
WymaganeNie pij alkoholu w ciągu 24 godzin przed pobraniem.
-
Przyjdź na czczo
WymaganeOd 22:00 poprzedniego wieczoru nie jedz i nie pij niczego poza wodą. To co najmniej 8 godzin. Tego ranka pomiń kawę, herbatę, gumę do żucia i papierosy. Zaplanuj pobranie przed 10:00.
-
Pobranie rano
Pij normalnie przed pobraniem, ułatwia to badanie.
- Przyjmuj swoje leki jak zwykle, chyba że twój lekarz zalecił inaczej.
