The Food Mix Panel (fx77) is an efficient first-line IgE screening tool that covers common food allergens. It helps identify whether further allergen-specific testing is needed as part of a proactive health approach.

Food mix fx77 measures IgE antibodies against five foods together in one test: sesame seed, hazelnut, tomato, kiwi and cashew. The NVKC gives below 0.35 kU per litre as the reference value for IgE against a single allergen; Star-SHL, Unilabs, Certe and Diagnostiek voor U do not offer fx77 and publish no limit for it.

  • A positive food mix fx77 result is not proof of a food allergy on its own; the diagnosis is made on symptoms, with the IgE result as support.
  • A positive fx77 result does not say which of the five foods causes the reaction; single-food tests are needed for that.
  • A normal fx77 result does not rule out a food allergy, and says nothing about foods outside the mix, such as milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanut and fish.

This panel measures specific IgE antibodies against a predefined mixture of common food allergens. A positive result indicates sensitisation to at least one allergen in the mix but does not identify which specific food is responsible — individual allergen testing is then needed.

Referral

What raises the value

  • IgE against sesame, hazelnut, tomato, kiwi or cashew

    Food mix fx77 contains sesame seed, hazelnut, tomato, kiwi and cashew; IgE against any of these five can make the result positive.

  • A reaction in the blood without allergy

    Sometimes only the blood reacts to a food without there being a food allergy; that food can then simply be eaten.

What happens if my food mix panel is positive?

A positive result means you are sensitised to at least one food in the mix. Your healthcare provider will recommend individual allergen testing to identify which specific food is causing the reaction.

Can this panel diagnose a food allergy?

It can identify sensitisation but not diagnose allergy on its own. Clinical history and potentially an oral food challenge are needed for definitive diagnosis.

Is this test the same as a food intolerance test?

No. This is an IgE-based allergy test. Food intolerance testing measures different pathways and is not interchangeable with allergy testing.
