The InsideTracker Heart Health blood test measures the 7 blood values InsideTracker uses to score heart health: ApoB, total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, hs-CRP and TSH. Here you buy exactly that panel, drawn at a certified Dutch lab.
A standard cholesterol measurement tells only part of the story. ApoB counts the particles that actually stick to the vessel wall, and hs-CRP and TSH add inflammation and thyroid function to the picture.
Why this test?
InsideTracker gives members a Heart Health score from 0 to 100, calculated from a fixed set of blood values. If you search for InsideTracker in the Netherlands, you usually want those values measured without a membership and without shipping a sample to the United States.
This blood test is that alternative: the same 7 blood values behind the Heart Health category, drawn at a certified Dutch lab and returned digitally in your account, with an assessment by a BIG-registered doctor.
The strength of this panel is ApoB: it counts the number of atherogenic particles in your blood and often predicts cardiovascular risk better than LDL cholesterol alone.
Who is this test for?
This panel may suit people who want to track their cardiovascular risk objectively. It can be relevant for:
- People with cardiovascular disease in the family
- People who want to follow up a previously elevated cholesterol
- People who want to see the effect of a diet or lifestyle change on their blood lipids
- People who want the InsideTracker Heart Health category measured in the Netherlands
What is tested?
This panel measures 7 blood values:
- Lipoproteins: ApoB, the number of particles carrying cholesterol through your blood.
- Cholesterol profile: Total Cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and Triglycerides.
- Inflammation: hs-CRP.
- Thyroid: TSH, because your thyroid function influences your cholesterol values.
What can this test tell you?
The results show how your lipid profile, your inflammation value and your thyroid function compare to the reference ranges. The combination is especially informative: a normal LDL with a high ApoB means something different than both being elevated.
If you want a broader view of your metabolism, our InsideTracker Metabolism blood test also measures your blood sugar and insulin. The full InsideTracker blood test measures 36 blood values in one go. Keep in mind that a single value is not a diagnosis.
How is the sample collected?
For this blood test, a staff member draws a small tube of blood at a certified location. You can choose from 650+ collection sites, so there is almost always a location near you.
You show the barcode from your ZorgDomein email and bring a valid ID. Without a BSN there is no barcode: you then print your referral form through the link in the email and bring it to the draw location. The draw usually takes just a few minutes.
When is this test useful?
Some people choose to measure these values:
- When family history makes them want early insight into their risk profile
- When they want to follow up a previously deviating cholesterol result
- When they want to track the effect of diet, exercise or weight loss on their lipids
- When they want an informed conversation about heart health with their GP
What do the results mean?
What the results mean depends on your personal situation: your age, blood pressure, smoking status and family history all weigh into your overall risk profile.
Always discuss any deviating values with your GP, so you know what the results may mean for you personally.
What happens after the results?
You receive your results digitally in your account, usually within a few working days. For each value, you can see whether it falls within the reference range.
Every blood test result includes a professional assessment from a BIG-registered doctor. For treatment decisions, discuss your results with your GP.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. You receive the measured blood values with reference ranges and an assessment by a BIG-registered doctor. The panel measures the same 7 values InsideTracker bases its Heart Health score on.
Besides the standard cholesterol profile, this panel also measures ApoB, hs-CRP and TSH. ApoB counts the atherogenic particles themselves, hs-CRP adds inflammation and TSH rules out a thyroid cause of deviating lipids.
A slow thyroid can raise your cholesterol. Measuring TSH shows whether your thyroid function plays a role in your lipid profile.
Yes, fasting is advisable for your triglycerides: no food for 10 to 12 hours and only water.
No, you can request this blood test yourself online. You can then discuss your results with your GP.
You usually receive your results within a few working days, digitally in your account.

Preparation
-
Been ill? Wait a little
RequiredHad a fever, an infection or a vaccination in the past 2 weeks? Wait with the draw until you are fully recovered. These values react to inflammation and would give a distorted picture.
-
Pause biotin
RequiredDo you take a supplement with biotin (vitamin B8, common in hair, skin and nail supplements)? Stop it 72 hours before the draw. Biotin interferes with the measurement of these values.
-
Better no hard training beforehand
RecommendedHard exercise in the 48 hours before can raise this value temporarily. Plan the draw on a rest day if you can.
-
No alcohol beforehand
RequiredDrink no alcohol in the 24 hours before the draw.
-
Preferably fasting
RecommendedComing fasting gives a slightly cleaner value, but it is not required. If it suits you, eat nothing from 22:00 the evening before and drink only water.
-
Timing worth knowing
Good to knowIf you repeat this test, pick the same time of day each time so the results compare.
- Water is always fine. Drink as usual beforehand, it makes the draw easier.
- Take your usual medication, unless your own doctor told you otherwise.
